Miley hasn’t released a solo album since Bangerz in 2013, but now she’s back with her new song Malibu, and it’s completely different from her previous work.

Miley opened up to Billboard magazine about her upcoming yet-to-be titled album, and explained that “Malibu” was written in the back of an Uber while on her way to her gig on The Voice. The song was inspired by her fiance, Liam Hemsworth, and the video features Miley playfully frolicking on the beach and grassy fields of Malibu…

It’s definitely a different sound than Miley’s last album, but it’s a nice to see this softer, more romantic side of Miley. And as for the inspiration behind the track, namely her rekindling her romance with Liam, she told Billboard QUOTE, «I needed to change so much. And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard. Suddenly you’re like, ‘I don’t recognize you anymore.’ We had to re-fall for each other”. While Liam sadly doesn’t have any cameos in the video, her adorable dog Emu definitely did…

I can’t even handle how cute that dog is. Miley will be performing “Malibu” live on the Billboard Music Awards on May 21. We’re gonna go ahead and assume she won’t be riding any giant hot dogs or wearing those infamous nipple pasties for this one, but then again no one knows how to keep us guessing quite like Miley, so we’ll just have to tune in to find out…
