Jude Law has been cast as Dumbledore in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel
From a young pope to a young wizard, Jude Law is on fire.
Jude Law has officially landed the iconic role of Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. The second installment of the Harry Potter spinoff franchise will introduce us to a much younger Dumbledore, as the Fantastic Beasts story continues to unfold decades before we were introduced to a Mr. Harry Potter.
Jude Law, who is currently starring in HBO’s The Young Pope nabbed the role over a few equally well-known Brits, including both Benedict Cumberbatch and Christian Bale, among others. In a statement, director David Yates said QUOTE “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”
That “very different time” may be referring to the fact that, at this point in the wizarding world’s timeline, Albus Dumbledore is serving as the Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts, many, many years before he became the school’s beloved headmaster we all know and love. Now, audiences can look forward to following along young Dumbledore’s journey as he befriends a wizard named Gellert Grindelwal, . The character, revealed to be Johnny Depp in the first movie, is clearly up to no good, so it’s likely that we’ll watch his relationship with Dumbledore fail miserably. Good wizard vs. evil wizard? Sounds familiar but, hey, it worked for us the first time around.
Dumbledore vs. Grindelwald will almost certainly become the focus of the main plot over the next few films. And we’ll almost certainly watch them fight it out too. There will be tons of magic happening all over the screen, and it’ll be great. And let’s not forget that Eddie Redmayne will be reprising his role as magizoologist Newt Scamander, who will also almost certainly find himself caught up in the crossfire.
Fantastic Beasts 2 is not slated for release until November of 2018, so no surprise that we haven’t gotten a title just yet, but it’s probably coming up as casting is coming to a close. With the first movie raking in more than 800 million dollars at the box office, things are looking pretty good for the upcoming sequels.

  1. I can’t tell she has watched Harry Potter because she seems liked she knew what she was talking about. I like that, she’s not being fake! Applause.

  2. Didn’t watch the first fantastic beasts movie as i felt disconnected to it, but will most likely watch this second one as it is involving Dumbledore and will make me feel more connected to the harry potter world.
