‘Shadowhunters’ star Dominic Sherwood has fans furious after using a gay slur during his co-star’s Facebook live stream.

This is honestly unacceptable.

So let’s break down exactly what happened. Shadowhunters star, Matthew Daddario, who plays an openly gay character on the show, was live streaming with fans on his Facebook and then Dom Sherwood walked in.

He goes on to say, “Oh I can’t come in because of my clothes?” clearly not realizing that the gay slur he used was incredibly offensive. Since the incident occurred, the official Shadowhunters Twitter account released an apology video and Dom posted it to his Instagram as well.

He went on to say, I think so many problematic phrases go unchallenged and they perpetrate negativity and intolerance and today I was a part of that and I am truly truly sorry. I just want to say that I am deeply sorry to all of you and all of my castmates and I’m sorry for disappointing you.” The issue many have is that he didn’t even know that he said anything wrong which implies that he says it more often than we think. Even though he apologized, some fans are asking for him to be let go from the show and spreading the hashtag #RecastJace and #DomIsOverParty.

One twitter user said, don’t y’all dare come and say «it was an accident» the way he so casually said it shows that he probably says things like that all the time so kindly shut the fuck up thank you #RecastJace

Another said, People that are saying that Dominic Sherwood didn’t mean it as a slur because he’s British and it means something different.

It doesn’t.

It’s a slur.

He knew that.

He still said it and he should face consequences for his homophobia.#RecastJace

Another said, there are many lgbt cast and crew members working for the show it is really awful and i hope theyre doing fine. create a safe work environment for your lgbt members and do not tolerate casual homophobia #firedom #recastjace @DSwim @toddzer1

You know when people say, “I can’t believe stuff like this still happens in 2017?” or “We’ve come so far?” Never forget that just because we don’t see or hear about it happening on the daily doesn’t mean that it’s not happening and there are people who are hurt as a result of these actions. What may not be offensive to you, can tear open an unhealed wound for someone else. Shadowhunters is a show that is known for their inclusion and support of the LGBTQ+ community. The cast and crew are open about spreading kindness and love. Hopefully, they make the right decision in dealing with this situation. Alright guys now I wanna now what you think about Dom’s apology and do you think he should be let go from the show? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below and after that be sure to subscribe! Thanks so much for watching, I’m your host Emile Ennis Jr. and I’ll see you next time!

  1. The people in these comments saying he apologized and everyone is so sensitive are so damn ignorant he apologized bottom line because he got caught and called out by many fans his apology was one of the least genuine things I have heard in my entire life it was as if freeform wrote and said hey say this people still defending his ass are so problematic it’s infuriating

  2. I’m British we call ciggeretes fags. Everybody calls cigarettes fags even people on tv say it, however when people call gay people or other people fags it’s a completely different story. So yes he should know better

  3. I don’t think he should have apologised. He did nothing wrong, he was talking to his friend not knowing they were live. As long as Matt doesn’t get offended he can call him however the hell he wants. He was referring to Matt (as a joke) and Matt is THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN GET OFFENDED!! NOT YOU!!
