On the Grammys red carpet on Sunday, Katy Perry made some insensitive remarks about Britney’s infamous head shaving incident back in 2007 and Britney fans were not happy about it. When asked by Ryan Secreast about her recent break from music Katy said QUOTE – “It’s called taking care of your mental health. I haven’t shaved my head yet.” Then she referenced the head shaving incident again during her interview with CBS. When they made a comment about her new blonde hair she responded -“It’s like the last colour in the spectrum that I can do. I’ve done all of them and the only thing left to do is shave my head, which I’m really saving for a public breakdown. I’m down for that. I’m almost moments away from that, obviously.” This then of course ensued Britney’s army to start the hashtag KatyPerryIsOverParty which quickly began to trend on Twitter.
Britney didn’t directly respond to Katy or refer to her comments but did tweet a bible verse following the remarks saying QUOTE – “Her mouth speaks from that which fills her heart.” She then posted a bomb photo of herself lying out on the beach with the caption “chasing the dream.” Then yesterday she posted this video with the caption – “Weekend advice.”
Clearly Britney was unbothered by Katy’s comments, but the same can’t be said about Britney’s fans. They went ham on Twitter. One person said – “I just lost all my respect for Katy Perry, well the little respect I did have for her.” Another said – “Have always liked Katy Perry very much, have even met her. But after what she said last night, I’ve lost a lot of respect for her… Making a joke about mental health issues isnt OK.” One fan took the scholastic route saying – “We’re demanding you issue an apology to Britney Spears. 1500 words minimum. MLA Format. Submitted via instagram. Due by midnight.” Another said – “@katyperry U should apologize to @britneyspears. Shame on u Katy. She never shades anyone.”
Maybe Katy didn’t mean any malicious intent by her comments or maybe just wasn’t thinking when she made the joke. People make mistakes. It just goes to show that we have to be careful with what we say. This is so stupid. The entire world turned Britney crazy during 2007 and made a fool/spectacle out of her and laughed at her for shaving her head. I understand where her fans are coming from but what Katy said is nothing compared to what EVERYONE had to say about her during 2007
